The State of Ohio this morning executed a Toledo man who shot and killed a Dorr Street grocery store owner during a robbery in 1993.
37 year old Vernon Smith, who legally changed his name to Abdullah Sharif Kaazim Mahdi after his arrest, was put to death by lethal injection at 10:00 this morning at the "Death House" at the maximum security Southern Ohio Correctional Facility in Lucasville.
Smith was pronounced dead at 10:28 this morning.
Smith was convicted of killing 28 year old Sohail Darwish during a robbery at the Woodstock Carryout, which was located at the corner of Woodstock and Dorr.
